My Current Goals.

A few months ago, I created a family tree on Ancestry.com to keep track of where I am in my family tree. I didn’t have any specific goals, so I ended up wandering from my mom’s side of the family to my dad’s side of the family and didn’t complete each generation before moving on to the next one.

Earlier this week, I deleted that tree and created a new one, mainly because my old tree had several copies of the same person and I wanted to start new and look at each person more specifically so that I wouldn’t be making duplicates. I wanted to have more care and love in my research than a hodge podge of various people.

Obviously, the goal is to become more meticulous in my research. My current goals for my family research are as follows:

• Follow the male line of my paternal side as far as I can go.
• Figure out the marriages for each male ancestor
• Find all the children of each of my male ancestors before moving onto the next generation

I went as far as finding the marriages of each of my male ancestor’s siblings before moving on to the next generation. It’ll be helpful when I go back and research each branch off of my direct line. When I’m done with my current goals I’ll go back and research my paternal grandmother’s line and then all the female lines of both my paternal grandma and grandpa.

Eventually I’ll get back to my mom’s side. It seems like I have a lot of work to do in my tree, that it’s almost overwhelming. But if I break it down so that it won’t be as much work to do. I don’t know if this is the correct way to go about it, but it’s working out okay for me so far. If you have a certain method of researching, I’d love to hear from you!
